Each month I get terrible headaches a few days before my period, even though I am not on the Pill. What can I do?
Headaches are a normal symptom of PMS, but there are a number of things you can do to help alleviate them. To restore balance and normal function to your reproductive system, try taking a multivitamin and antioxidant combination that includes the following in one supplement: vitamins A, C, E and B complex, and minerals: selenium, chromium, zinc, copper, iron and manganese. The herb dong quai (Angelica sinensis) is a good hormone
balancer. Also add omega 3 (cold water salmon oil – 500mg per day) and omega 6 (500mg starflower oil per day).
1- Drink a minimum of eight glasses of water a day and cut back on caffeine and chocolate.
2- Reduce saturated fat and sugar consumption and rather focus on unsaturated fish oils (salmon, trout, sardines, mackerel), and plant oils found in avocados, extra virgin olive, canola and grapeseed oils.
3- Eat lots of fruit (aim for three to four portions a day), veggies (aim for five portions a day) and a handful of nuts, seeds and legumes.
Remember that stress plays a huge role in PMS. Daily deep relaxation (10-20 minutes morning and evening) is a must to alleviate symptoms, as is regular gentle exercise such as walking, swimming, dancing or yoga – at least 20-30 minutes four times a week.
